In the second season, Giovanna begins a new romance with Inspector Walter Manrico, while Carmine Tonnara, Don Vito's son, dies in prison. The Tonnara family, after the Maxi Trial, has been dismantled. The only one still at large is Mafia boss Vito Tonnara, who, blinded by revenge, tries everything he can to eliminate Commissioner Scalise.

His father Vito Tonnara swears revenge on his son's grave against the architect of his conviction: Commissioner Giovanna Scalise. It is a new threat that looms over our protagonist just when it seems that a new life is beginning for her thanks to her love story with Inspector Walter Manrico, which Giovanna confesses only to her mother. The mechanic Lorenzi gives two criminals the codes of the anti-theft devices he installs on cars on behalf of a dealership: he needs money to treat his wife who has a serious heart condition. A stolen car hits a girl in front of a homeless man. The rush to the hospital turns out to be useless, but Elisa, who is registered as a donor, can save another life. With her parents' consent, her heart is removed and fate has it that it is Lorenzi's wife, who has been waiting for years for a new heart. 02 Until the Last Breath / Innocence Violated still Until the Last Breath / Innocence Violated Episode 22nd October 2001 Saro is the new bartender, replacing Paula at the bar near the District. The new elite agent Valeria Ruggero (Cristina Moglia) arrives at the District. Ugo, who confides in Ingargiola his worries because he is behind on his mortgage payments, is fascinated by his new colleague. A child is approached by a man, but manages to escape his attentions. Matteo's mother reports the incident to the Precinct and Commissioner Scalise immediately alerts his men. Those who are plotting to kill Scalise have an unexpected stroke of luck. Saro, increasingly under pressure from Vito Tonnara, begins to prepare the ambush... Mauro and Roberto, called to investigate a scam, discover with surprise that the robbed person is their elementary school teacher. Once the case is solved, they recall their school years with her and the teacher reveals funny details about them. Meanwhile, Manrico and Valeria are busy with a case involving a psychiatrist and one of his patients in the throes of a fit of rage. 04 Desperate Hours / Guilty or Innocent still Desperate Hours / Guilty or Innocent Episode 416th October 2001 Commissioner Scalise, unconscious on the ground after being hit by Saro, is rushed to the hospital, it would seem all lost for Giovanna and the child she is carrying... but a bulletproof vest, which the commissioner has decided to wear all the time since she knew she was pregnant, has worked a miracle. Manrico, to the amazement and anger of his colleagues and friends, is stopped and interrogated by the DIA as a presumed accomplice of the attacker. Vito Tonnara advises Saro to disappear from circulation for a while, Saro is terrified of what he has done. Giovanna leaves the hospital as soon as she recovers to go to the DIA and intervene in defense of Manrico. To everyone's amazement she declares that Manrico cannot be guilty of complicity in the attack because he is the father of her child. The District is busy with a murder case, the only witness is an autistic boy. While Giovanna, Manrico and Mauro investigate, Angela tries to communicate with the boy to get some clues. Roberto and Luca, on the other hand, are busy unmasking a magician's scam. Giovanna and Manrico, after the dramas and tensions, finally manage to clear things up and find their intimacy again. Manrico tries to convince Giovanna to take a break, she is hesitant. The police station is dealing with a delicate case of kidnapping and blackmail of a bank manager, whose daughter is held hostage. For Mauro there are surprises, Paula is finally back, but the girl reacts badly to the fact that Tiberio has moved in with Mauro. 07 Chinatown (Part One) / Chinatown (Part Two) still Chinatown (Part One) / Chinatown (Part Two) Episode 76th November 2001 The 10th Tuscolano is dealing with a case involving the Chinese community of the capital and requiring environmental wiretaps and long shadowing involving all of Scalise's men. However, the advanced pregnancy and the doctor's recommendations force Giovanna to follow the case from the police station, under the watchful eye of Manrico, who is very apprehensive. The Chinese case turns out to be much more complex than expected, it is a real internal war between two mafia families with mysterious and disturbing implications. In the precinct Valeria realizes that she is not very loved by her colleagues and vents her anger with Giovanna. Sofia is a Romanian girl who was attacked. Vittoria and Mauro discover that behind the attack is a man who extorted fifteen million from the girl for a marriage that would give her Italian citizenship and thanks to the investigations, a real criminal organization also comes to light. Meanwhile in the district, Giovanna decides that Valeria would be perfect to meet Laura, Saro's girlfriend. Giovanna confronts Saro, Manrico is close to her. Scalise would like to convince the boy to collaborate but to no avail. Saro and Laura are being watched. They want to escape and the girl, having learned from her boyfriend the whole truth about the attack, would still like to stay with him and escape; but Saro, having arrived at Laura's, is surprised by his future executioner: Vito Tonnara who kills him in cold blood in front of Laura and then escapes from the precinct officers. 10 Pablo the Gypsy (Part One) / Pablo the Gypsy (Part Two) still Pablo the Gypsy (Part One) / Pablo the Gypsy (Part Two) Episode 1027th November 2001 Pablo the "Gitano" gets four days leave from Rebibbia prison and, in the company of his woman, steals a luxury sedan that he exchanges for a gun from a fence to rob a jewelry store. Mauro and Valeria finally manage to find Pablo the "Gitano"'s hideout, but with Mauro in handcuffs, he manages to escape with a hostage. Only later, after a tight chase, will the police be able to catch the criminal. Tonnara is in Rome and Scalise finds out about this.
